Color Laboratory – an exhibition

laboratorium kolorow

Color Laboratory – an exhibition of natural earth pigments in the Land of Extinct Volcanoes, a project inspired by an alchemical laboratory straight from the Middle Ages. Jars, measuring cups, glass test tubes, mortars, a historic Renaissance tenement house – all this is intended to invite you to learn about the geological heritage of the Złotoryja area.

I invite you to the Barwy Kaczawskie Natural Pigments Gallery, especially since it is an open exhibition. This is a good opportunity to visit one of the oldest places in Poland or to learn something new about the area. After all, it is one of the most geologically and colorfully diverse areas in Poland. There are plenty of beautiful places related to ancient volcanic activity, as well as diverse sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. This is an attraction not only for travelers and tourists, but also for artists, after all, the exhibition presents dust, stones, rocks, soil and minerals found in Złotoryja and the surrounding area closed in laboratory jars.

In the Middle Ages, the use of natural dyes was common and had wide application in various areas of life, from arts and crafts to medicine. Natural dyes were obtained mainly from plants, minerals and some animals. Unlike modern synthetic dyes, medieval coloring substances were fully organic and came from nature. My exhibition and work refer to a return to the roots of the history of pigments and their extraction. Natural dyes were used not only in painting, but also in weaving and tailoring. It is worth noting that in the Middle Ages, the process of obtaining natural dyes was time-consuming and often required advanced knowledge about plants, minerals and animals. Despite these difficulties, natural dyes were valued for their authenticity and connection to the natural world. Today, there is an ecological element and the identity and promotion of the region. You are cordially invited, it will be a great pleasure to host you.
